It’s estimated that 20% of PPC ad clicks are, for lack of a better term, shite.
Well, Google would call them Invalid Clicks which they define as “Clicks on ads that Google considers to be illegitimate, such as unintentional clicks or clicks resulting from malicious software.”
Whether it’s a human or an automated bot, these invalid or fraudulent clicks are costly. These are the two most common forms of PPC Ad Fraud:
Click Fraud – A fraudster is clicking on your ads (or unleashes a click-bot to do the dirty work) to deplete your budget and stop your ads from showing.
Ad Fraud – A fraudster drives fake traffic (from Fiverr or wherever) to banner or video ads on a website that monetizes through advertising.
So, what can be done about it? Well, like most types of spam, you’ll need to accept a certain amount as the cost of doing business.
That said, if you feel like PPC Ad Fraud is becoming a serious problem, read this.
